The Justin Veatch Fund is a non-profit, 501(c)3, organization created by the Veatch family following the death of 17 year old Justin Veatch from an accidental drug overdose in 2008. Justin was an incredibly gifted singer-songwriter-musician whose music has been enjoyed around the world since the release of Permagrin: The Music of Justin Veatch by the Ivoryton Piano Factory and Friends. The CD includes six of Justin’s original recordings plus covers of those songs by artists including Owen, Members of Boys Night Out, Moving Mountains, Vinicius Cantuaria, Caterpillars and others. Originally released by Polyvinyl Records songs on the CD have sold or streamed in all 50 states and 50 countries.
The Justin Veatch Fund recognizes the teaching of music and art is a critical component of a child’s education. The mission of The Fund is to award annual music scholarships and provide young artists opportunities to collaborate with and be challenged by a network of like-minded peers and professionals. Events sponsored by The Fund include open mic nights, music workshops and an annual concert which allows the most talented of Fund participants to open for a headline artist.
Our parallel mission is to advise teens and young adults about the perils of substance abuse. Justin’s father, Jeffrey Veatch, has presented his multi-media talk, A Message from Justin, to more than 35-thousand young people in schools in the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut areas. For more information about the talk go to A Message from Justin web page. https://thejustinveatchfund.org/2011/04/30/a-message-from-justin/
The documentary Whispering Spirits tells Justin’s story and how the Veatch Family has turned their tragedy into an inspiring resource for teens.
